Hi. Can you please tell me, I'm a complete newbie and don't understand at all how to update my mods ( I have a cas room too) And how did you update to direct 11? Sorry for asking elementary questions and hoping for a reply or even a tutorial! I will be very grateful
hi there!! no worries! questions are all good :) dx11 is the default rendering api of the game now, so everyone on pc (except those who use intel graphics cards) will have their game automatically run it from now on, with a new in game setting to switch back to dx9.
so, the mods/cc affected are build stuff, buy stuff, and CAS rooms. CAS cc appears to be spared for now, (mostly) which is nice lmao
Most people's build/buy/CAS rooms are perfectly compatible with dx11, and function just as they did on dx9, the only difference is:
dx11 does NOT work for build/buy/CAS rooms mods that include image files (either .dds or .png) that have dimensions that aren't an exact x2 multiple of 128 (so 256, 512, 1024, 2048, etc) and will show that silly question mark with the funky colours.
so if any of your mods/build cc is affected (build cc thumbnails are also affected by this change) all you need to do is change your image files so that the dimensions are x2 multiples of 128, and not x3 multiples, or whatever else. You can do this manually, or use the experimental batch fix that sims 4 studio has, here is more info about that!

Your sims 2 UI mod is breaking a bunch of textures of wall papers and certain objects. can you please address and fix this??
I'm guessing the purple looking question mark on the DX11 version of the game?
this is my game, with the sims 2 ui mod out of my mods folder, DX11 on since this is where most of that texture issue happen, cache files deleted beforehand:

so as you can see.. since it still persists without my UI mod, it's not my thing to fix but the individual creators of which the CCs with the "broken" textures belong to (or you can do it too with the DX11 batch fix tool).
(Broken in quotation as in it's not the creator's fault that there are now new requirements for setting up the texture sizes, and the devs might fix the issue from their end and make all CCs work with DX11 and DX9 regardless of how the CCs are set up.)
So far all EA wallpapers work fine, which is why I assume it's the wallpaper CCs and not the UI mod, or else we would've gotten it on the EA wallpapers too.
aside from this specific issue, I don't know of anything else, texture-wise, that could've been affected by my UI mod (so far most issue associated w/ the lovestruck patch have been addressed, only the werewolf icon left). If you have any more specifics that are not this, you're more than welcome to send another ask.
anyway, I tried to find the reason why it breaks the way it does and here's my understanding of it below the cut.
Using this nostalgia living wallpaper as an example:

on short & tall walls, you get the question mark. on medium wall, it works fine.
after running the Sims 4 Studio's DX11 fix and with my sims 2 ui mod back on, with the wall height set to short & tall:

problem fixed, and the sims 2 UI mod still doesn't affect it in any way.
what's the difference and why does it only happen on the short & tall walls? first, here's what the dx11 fix does based on andrew's comment, which suggests that any textures that are not in the power of 2 will likely get the question mark.
Build/Buy images always need mip maps. The batch fix scales non powers of 2 up or down to the nearest power of 2, so it could either increase or decrease in size depending on how close the image is to the next power of 2.

texture before dx11 fix: 1024 x 768 pixels (768 is not a power of 2) texture after dx11 fix: 1024 x 512 pixels (512 is a power of 2)
here's a comparison between the texture sizes before the dx11 fix:

medium, which works fine: width & height are 1024 px (both are powers of 2) short & tall, which has the question mark texture: has 768 px & 1280 px height (both are not powers of 2)
on EA walls, you can always expect texture sizes to be 256 x 512 px (for short & medium) and 256 x 1024 px (for tall height walls) or 512 x 512 px and 1024 x 1024 px for square textures.
here's how you can fix the "broken" files yourself:
on Sims 4 Studio > Content Management > Batch Fixes > Misc > Update Images for DX11
and finally, additional info on what to expect when a UI mod is actually the one behind an issue (again, based on my own understanding and may not encompass every issue there are):
misplaced/mismatched icons/UIs (most known: broken GUI/buttons/empty trait icons in CAS as it gets broken every. single. patch.)
missing grey llama texture, most often attributed to missing/wrong icon texture size.
being prevented from accessing certain features/modes and may cause lastUIExceptions (sometimes non-UI mods do it too).
some features not working as intended, likely caused by conflicting UI mod files.

The old smith had aged even more over the last winter, his silver hair had become thinner and the wrinkles on his face more pronounced.
Bodowin: "It is good to see you, friend. With so many mouths to feed this winter I won't be trading much of our grain, so I thought I might as well sail while the winds were more favorable."

As I slowly get back into creating, I've found myself in need of more resources to streamline the process of converting. So whilst I'm re-learning all my skills, I've decided to share everything I personally wanted with you (´。• ᵕ •。`)
Walls are really fun to convert, but if you want to give them an extra oomph . . . well, you'll need it to have some nice skirting and coving, won't you?
Details is a PSD with wall coving + skirting pulled from the Sims 4 Base Game. It's featured on wallpapers like "Basic Darks with White Trim", amongst others. The texture was extracted and cleaned up by renorasims, then converted, tweaked and recoloured by me.
It comes in all 27 colours from my state of elegance palette and features a subtle shadow near the top (coving) and bottom (skirting) of the texture for some added depth.

Use them freely on all walls, from tiles to wallpapers, for that little bit of sophistication!
DETAILS — You will need a copy of Photoshop to open these files. It doesn't matter which version of Photoshop you have; PSDs are forwards and backwards compatible. — Credit: EA and renorasims. — There are two versions of the PSD file included: one for Windows users and one for Apple users. The Windows PSD is made for 512 x 1024 walls; the Apple PSD for 256 x 512 walls.

My new laptop will have 512 GB and I was advised that wouldn't be enough for the Sims 🤷‍♀️ But I won't be using a lot of cc and mods and it's probably the only game I'll be playing on it.
Plus I don't necessarily know if I'll install every single pack I have on it. Here's the ones I may be giving a pass.
Get to Work. I honestly don't think this is a bad expansion pack. In terms of gameplay, it gives you a lot to do especially in comparison to Lovestruck. But the cas feels extremely dated and I simply don't use the pack enough.
Get Famous. Again this pack at least gives you a lot to do, but it's more niche than a must-have. Since I'll be using cc, I don't really need the formal wear - and the celebrities gatecrashing the most out-of-the-way community spots have hyped up their last crowd as far as I'm concerned. Maybe if there's a mod that limits celebrities to certain worlds, I'll consider it.
High School Years. This is a maybe. I use the build and buy a lot and like the world, but in comparison to the other education pack (Discover University), the gameplay element feels undercooked.
Dine Out. There's that one candle in a glass bowl small enough to go on the single tile tables and have Sims still eat at them, otherwise no. My Sims take long enough to eat as it is. I know there's an excellent mod that makes it functional, but the pack never should have been that broken in the first place.
Batuu. I actually like the build items for more dishevelled looks. But all I needed to say was 'Batuu' and that would be reason enough.
My Wedding Stories. Another maybe as the dresses and the world are genuinely very nice, but the main gameplay mechanic yet again is broken.
Luxury Party. Space isn't such an issue with the stuff packs but this one I got free through Epic and I... don't like the cas, don't like the build items. Vintage Glamour gives similar vibes but while the build and buy isn't for everyone, the quality is much better. And I actually use butlers a reasonable amount with my more well-to-do families. They're better than nannies in many ways since they'll do pretty much any task, you don't have to worry about them never showing up and you can direct their actions. Although Boney from Paranormal is still my favourite home help ever 🤍
Moschino. I'd probably have fun with the photography career if I tried it, but eh.
Fitness. There's one gameplay function I find very useful, which is working out through tv, but there's probably a mod for that. Still, it's only a stuff pack and I do use it every save, especially when the weather's too extreme to go for a run or the Sim is a caregiver to young children.
Bust the Dust. Would probably only use if I attempted another Black Widow challenge, since I think the dust bunnies can actually unalive people?
Modern Menswear. I just don't use it.
